நாம் எமது முப்பது வருட நிறைவினைப் பெருமையுடன் கொண்டாடிக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றோம் !!! இத்தருணத்தில் கல்லூரியில் வீற்றிருக்கும் சிவகாமிசமேத நடராஜப் பெருமானை வணங்கி எனக்கு கிடைத்த இந்த வாய்ப்புக்கு நன்றி கூறுகின்றேன்.
இந்த மூன்று தசாப்தகால பயணமானது சாதாரணமாக கடந்துசென்ற ஒரு காலகட்டமல்ல, எமது கனடா பழைய மாணவர்களது அர்ப்பணிப்பு, பலம் மற்றும் ஒற்றுமை மூலமாகவே இது சாத்தியமானது. முதற்கண் எமது சங்கத்தை ஆரம்பகாலம் முதல் இன்றுவரை கட்டுக்கோப்புடன் வழிநடாத்தி வந்த 12 நிர்வாக சபைகளையும் சேர்ந்த உறுப்பினர்களுக்கு எனது நன்றியை தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கின்றேன். அத்துடன் எம்மைவிட்டுப் பிரிந்த உறுப்பினர்களையும் நாம் நினைவில் கொள்வோம்.
இதுவரை காலமும் எமது கல்லூரியின் வளர்ச்சிக்கு எம்மாலான பங்களிப்பை வழங்கியுள்ளோம். நிதியுதவி, கற்றலுக்குரிய வளங்களை வழங்கல் மற்றும் மேலதிக திறமைகளை ஊக்குவித்தல் என பல வழிகளில் எமது கல்லூரி மாணவர்களுக்கு உதவி வந்துள்ளோம். இதை வரும் காலங்களிலும் தொடருவோம்.
எமது சாதனைகளைப் பிரதிபலிக்கும் இத்தருணத்தில் நாம் எமது எதிர் காலத்தைப் பற்றியும் சிந்திக்க வேண்டும். எமக்குள்ள பெரிய சவால் இந்த அமைப்பை எவ்வாறு அர்த்தமுள்ள ஒரு அமைப்பாக இன்னும் ஐம்பது நூறு வருடங்களுக்கு தக்கவைத்துக் கொள்வது. அதை அடைவதற்கு இந்த இரண்டு பாதைகள் உறுதுணையாக இருக்கும் என நான் நம்புகிறேன்:
1. **அடுத்த தலைமுறையினரை உள்வாங்குதல்** - கனடாவில் பிறந்த எமது அங்கத்தவர்களது பிள்ளைகளை அங்கத்தவர்களாக இணைப்பதற்குரிய காலம் வந்துவிட்டது என நினைக்கிறேன். அவர்களது கல்வி அறிவு, அனுபவம் எமது அமைப்பை புத்துணர்ச்சி பெறச்செய்து பொலிவுடன் தொடர்ந்து செயற்பட வழிசமைக்கும் என்ற நம்பிக்கை எனக்கு உண்டு.
2. **அடுத்த தலைமுறையினரை கல்லூரியுடன் இணைத்தல்** - எமது உறுப்பினர்களது பிள்ளைகளுக்கும் எம் கல்லூரிக்கும் இடையில் ஒரு நிரந்தர பந்தத்தை ஏற்படுத்துவதன் மூலம் கல்லூரியின் வளர்ச்சிக்கு தொடர்ந்து பங்களிப்பை வழங்கலாம். குறிப்பாக தலைமைத்துவ பயிற்சி புதிய தொழில்நுட்பம், புதியபாட விதானங்கள், விளையாட்டு பயிற்சி போன்ற விடயங்களில் புலம்பெயர் அடுத்த தலைமுறையினர் தமது பங்களிப்பை வழங்க வழி செய்யலாம்.
தமது தளராத உழைப்பின் மூலம் எமது 30 ஆவது வருட ஒன்றுகூடலினை சிறப்புற ஒழுங்கமைத்து இச் சிறப்பு மலரினையும் வெளியிட்ட தற்போதைய நிர்வாக சபை உறுப்பினர்களுக்கு எனது நன்றிகளை சிரம் தாழ்த்தி தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன்.

யா/விக்ரோறியாக் கல்லூரி சுழிபுரம் பழைய மாணவர் சங்கம் – கனடா, தனது 30 ஆண்டை கொண்டாடும் இவ்வேளையில், செயலாளராக கடமை புரிய சந்தர்ப்பம் கிடைத்ததையிட்டு மகிழ்ச்சி அடைகின்றேன்.
சங்கத்தின் முன்னோடிகளினால், கல்லூரி மீதான பற்றினால், 1995 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட எங்கள் சங்கம், பல செயற்குழுக்களைக் கடந்து, பழைய மாணவர்களினதும், பழைய மாணவர்களின் குடும்பத்தவர்களினதும், முன்னாள் ஆசிரியர்களினதும், நலன்விரும்பிகளினதும் ஒத்துழைப்புடனும் நன்கொடைகளாலும், பல்வேறுபட்ட நற்பணிகளை எமது கல்லூரிக்கும், சமூகத்திற்கும் தொடர்ந்து செய்து வருகின்றது. மேலும் இச்சங்கம் மிக முக்கியமாக, கனடாவில் வசிக்கும் விக்ரோறியா அன்னையின் பிள்ளைகளை ஒன்றிணைக்கும் ஒரு உறவுப் பாலமாகவும் தன் பணியை தொடர்கிறது.
இந்த பயணத்தின் ஒவ்வொரு கட்டத்திலும், முன்னாள் போசகர்களினதும் தலைவர்களினதும் உறுப்பினர்களினதும் தன்னலமற்ற தொண்டும், ஒற்றுமையும், அர்ப்பணிப்பும், சங்கத்தின் அனைத்து நடவடிக்கைகளுக்கும் வலுவூட்டியிருக்கின்றன. அந்த பாரம்பரியத்தின் தொடர்ச்சியாக இன்றைய செயற்குழுவும் உறுதியாக செயல்பட்டு வருகின்றது.
சங்கத்தின் 12 ஆம் ஆண்டு நிறைவு மலர் வெளியீட்டின் பின், கடந்த 18 ஆண்டுகளுக்கான நமது பயணத்தின் ஆவணப்படுத்தலின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை இச்செயற்குழு உணர்ந்ததின் வெளிப்பாடே இந்த 30 ஆவது ஆண்டு நிறைவு சிறப்பு மலர். இந்த மலர், எமது கடந்த கால (1995 தொடக்கம் 2025 வரையான) நினைவுகளையும், சேவைகளையும், சாதனைகளையும் பதிவு செய்யும் ஒரு வரலாற்றுச் சான்றாக இருக்கும் என திடமாக நம்புகிறேன்.
இந்த மலருக்காக தகவல், புகைப்படங்கள், ஆதாரங்கள், ஆலோசனைகள் வழங்கிய அனைத்து முன்னாள் தலைவர்கள், செயலாளர்கள், பொருளாளர்கள் மற்றும் தற்போதைய உறுப்பினர்களுக்கும், மேலும் மலருக்கு வாழ்த்துச் செய்தி மற்றும் ஆக்கங்கள் தந்துதவியவர்களுக்கும், மலர் உருவாக்கத்திற்கு உதவிய தட்டச்சு செய்தவர்களுக்கும், வடிவமைப்பாளர்களுக்கும், மெய்ப்பு நோக்குதல் புரிந்தவர்களுக்கும், முக்கியமாக மலர் வெளியிடுவதற்கு உதவிய விளம்பரதாரர்களுக்கும், அத்துடன், 30 ஆவது ஆண்டு நிறைவு ஒன்றுகூடல் நிகழ்வை சிறப்பாக ஒழுங்கமை்ப்பு செய்த உதவிச் செயலாளர் திரு. முரளிதரன் கதிர்காமநாதன் அவர்களுக்கும், செயற்குழு உறுப்பினர்களின் உதவியினூடாகக் கிடைக்கப்பெற்ற விளம்பரதாரர்களின் தகவல்களை ஒருங்கிணைத்து நிர்வகித்த உதவிப் பொருளாளர் திரு. சுதர்சன் முத்துக்குமாரசுவாமி அவர்களுக்கும், ஒன்றுகூடல் நுழைவுச்சீட்டுகளை செயற்குழு உறுப்பினர்களின் உதவியுடன் பழைய மாணவர்களின் கைகளில் கிடைக்கச் செய்வதை உறுதி செய்த பொருளாளர் சிவா ஞானப்பிரகாசம் அவர்களுக்கும் எனது உளமார்ந்த நன்றிகளை தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன்.
இந்தச் சிறப்பான தருணத்தில், 2026 ஆம் ஆண்டு, எமது கல்லூரி 150 ஆவது ஆண்டில் காலடி எடுத்து வைக்க இருப்பதை பெருமையுடன் நினைவூட்டி எமது எதிர்கால செயற்குழுக்களுக்கும் உங்களது ஆதரவை தொடர்ந்து வழங்குமாறு பழைய மாணவர்களையும், பழைய மாணவர்களின் குடும்பத்தினர்களையும், நலன் விரும்பிகளையும் பணிவாகக் கேட்டுக்கொள்கின்றேன்.

எமது தாய் திருநாட்டின் புகழ் பூத்த கிராமமாம் சுழிபுரம். சுழிபுரத்தை அண்டிய பல கிராமங்களிற்கு கல்வி தாயாக விளங்கும் எமது விக்ரோறியாக் கல்லூரி இன்று கல்வி, விளையாட்டு, பலகலை போன்றவற்றில் முன் சிறந்து விளங்குவது எமக்கு எல்லாம் பெருமை தரும் விடயமாக உள்ளது.
எமது பாடசாலையின் பல பழைய மாணவர்கள், உலகின் பல பாகங்களிலும் தமது தடம் பதித்து, நல்ல துறைகளிலும் மிளிருகின்றனர். அப்படியாகவே விக்ரோறியாவின் பல பழைய மாணவர்கள் கனடா நாட்டிலும் 1995 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஒரு பழைய மாணவர் சங்க கிளையை ஆரம்பித்து, சிறப்பாக இயங்கி வருகின்றனர். அக்கிளையில் 25 வருடமாக நானும் ஒரு அங்கத்தவராக இருப்பதை எண்ணி பெருமிதம் அடைகின்றேன்.
பழைய மாணவர் சங்க கனடா கிளை ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் பொங்கல் விழா, கோடை கால ஒன்றுகூடல், சுற்றுலாக்கள் என பல செயற்பாடுகளை முன்னெடுத்து வருகின்றது. அத்துடன் பல வழிகளிலும் நிதி சேகரிப்புகளில் ஈடுபட்டு பாடசாலைக்கு வேண்டிய தேவைகளையும் செய்கின்றது.
எனது பொருளாளர் பதவிக் காலத்தில் 30 ஆம் ஆண்டு நிறைவையொட்டி, ஒரு ஒன்றுகூடலை ஒழுங்கு செய்து எமது பழைய மாணவர்கள் அனைவரையும் மகிழ்வித்து, மீண்டும் ஒன்றிணைத்து வைப்பதில் கனடா கிளை பெருமிதம் அடைகின்றது.
பழைய மாணவர் சங்கம் என்றால் பாடசாலைக்கு மட்டும் உதவி செய்வது என்ற நோக்கம் மட்டுமல்லாது, இயந்திரமாக ஓடிக்கொண்டு இருக்கும் எம் பழைய மாணவர்களிற்கு இன்ப விருந்தாக இந்நாள் அமையும் என்று எண்ணுகிறேன்.
இச்சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் தம்மால் முடிந்த பண, சரீர உதவி செய்த அனைத்து பழைய மாணவர்களிற்கும், நலன் விரும்பிகளிற்கும் நன்றியை தெரிவித்து கொள்கிறேன்.

இலங்கையில் இருந்து போர்க்கள சூழ்நிலையினால் இடம் பெயர்ந்த மக்களாகிய நாம், பல்வேறு நாடுகளில் தஞ்சமடைந்தோம். நாட்டுப்பற்று காரணமாக நாம், கனடாவில் 1995ஆம் ஆண்டு முதன்முதல் பழைய மாணவர் சங்க அங்குரார்ப்பணக் கூட்டம் செய்தோம்.
திரு. க. சிவசுப்பிரமணியம் அவர்கள் மேற்பார்வையில், புதிய நிர்வாகத்தினை தெரிவு செய்தோம். புதிய தலைவராக தெரிவு செய்த திரு. சு. பாலசுப்பிரமணியம் அவர்கள் தலைமையில் உள்ள நிர்வாகம் சில வருடம் திறம்பட செயல்பட்டது.
இக்காலப் பகுதியில் பழைய மாணவர்கள், நலன் விரும்பிகள் உதவியுடன் முதன்முதலில் $4996 பணம் கல்லூரி பழைய மாணவர் சங்க வங்கிக் கணக்கில் வைப்பில் இடப்பட்டது. இதன் வருமானத்தில் பாடசாலை உதவி ஆசிரியர்களின் வேதனத்திற்கு ஒத்துழைப்பு வழங்கினோம். இதன்பின் திரு. சிவராம் அவர்கள் தலைமை பொறுப்பேற்று செயற்பட்டு வந்தார். இக்காலக்கட்டத்தில் கல்லூரியின் வேண்டுகோளுக்கு இணங்கி 400m வரை ஓடு பாதை அமைக்கும் முயற்சியில், ஒரு தொகுதி நிலத்தை கொள்வனவு செய்து கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. கல்லூரியின் 125ஆம் நிறைவையொட்டி நாம் ஒரு நினைவு மலரை இங்கு வெளியீடு செய்து விமர்சையாக கொண்டாடினோம்.
இதன்பின் காலத்துக்குக் காலம் புதிய நிர்வாக உறுப்பினர்கள் தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்டு சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்று வருகின்றது. இக்காலக்கட்டத்தில் 400m ஓடுபாதையை முழுமையாக பூர்த்தி செய்து பாவனைக்கு திறந்துவிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் புதிய நிர்வாக சபை தெரிவு செய்து பல வேலைத் திட்டங்களை செய்துள்ளோம்.

K. சிவசுப்ரமணியம் (முன்னாள் கட்டுப்பத்தை விரிவுரையாளர்) அவர்களின் வழிகாட்டலில் 1995ம் ஆண்டு ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது.

அத்தோடு அந்நிய தேசத்தில் வாழ வழி வகுத்ததும் கல்லூரியின் வழிநடத்தலே. அவ்வண்ணமே நாம் வசிக்கும் கனடா நாட்டில் விக்ரோறியா அன்னையின் புதல்வர் பலர் சேர்ந்து 30 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் ஆரம்பித்த பழைய மாணவர் சங்கமானது “ஆல்போல் தழைத்து அறுகு போல் வேரூன்றி” என்ற பதத்திற்கு இணங்க வளர்ந்து நிற்கின்றது என்பதைச் சொல்வதிற் பெருமையும் மகிழ்ச்சியும் அடைகின்றேன். இத்தனை வருட காலத்திலும் நாம் எமது கல்வி தாய்க்கு செய்த சேவை அளப்பரியது. “யாம் பெற்ற இன்பம் பெறுக எம் வழி வந்தோரும்” என்று எமது இந்நாட்டின் பனி, குளிர், வெயில் என்ற அசாதாரண கால நிலையையும் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் உழைத்து, சிறுகச் சிறுகச் சேர்த்து, எமது சேவையை செய்துள்ளோம். இந்த சங்க ஆரம்ப காலத்தில் இருந்து நான் அதில் ஒரு அங்கத்தவராகி, காரியதரிசியாகி, தலைவியாகி பல வருடமாக வேலை செய்துள்ளேன். ஒவ்வொருவரும் தன் சொந்த வேலையாகவும், ஒற்றுமையாகவும், சந்தோஷமாகவும் செய்து வந்துள்ளனர். இங்கு பல பொங்கல் விழாக்களையும், ஒன்று கூடல்களையும் செய்தோம். பல சுற்றுலா பயணங்களையும் மேற்கொண்டு, இங்குள்ள நமது உறவுகளை சந்தோஷப்படுத்தி அதனூடாக சேகரிக்கப்படும் பணத்தை கல்லூரிக்கு அனுப்பி வைப்பிலிட்டு, வட்டி பணத்தில் கல்லூரியின் தேவைகளின் ஒரு பகுதியை பூர்த்தி செய்துள்ளோம்.
1. சுற்றுலா பயணம் எனும் போது பழைய மாணவ குடும்பத்தினர் மட்டுமின்றி வேறு சில மாணவ மாணவர் சங்கத்தினரும் சேர்ந்து 30,000 தீவுகளை கப்பலில் சென்று சுற்றி வந்தோம்.
2. இது மட்டுமன்றி வசந்த கால இயற்கை காட்சியை பார்ப்பதற்காக ரயிலில் Credit Valley என்னும் இடத்திற்கும் சென்று வந்தோம்.
3. இத்துடன் எமது கல்லூரியின் 125 ஆவது ஆண்டு மலர், நடன ஆசிரியையினால் தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட CD ஆகியவை கிடைக்க பெற்றதும் விற்பனை செய்து பணம் வசூலித்தோம்.
4. கல்லூரியில் நிர்மாணிக்கப்பட்ட புதிய கட்டடத்திற்கான Tiles பதிப்பித்தோம். Cricket விளையாட்டுக்காக பணம் அனுப்பி வைத்தோம்.
இப்படி பல விதத்திலும் எமது கல்லூரிக்கான சேவை செய்துள்ளோம். இதே வேளை என்னுடன் தோளோடு தோள் கொடுத்து ஒத்துழைத்த அத்தனை அங்கத்தவர்களுக்கும் நன்றி சொல்ல கடமைப்பட்டுள்ளேன்.
இச்சங்கத்தை அடுத்த சந்ததியின் கைகளுக்குக் கையளித்து, பல்லாண்டு காலம் வளர்ந்து, தொடர்ந்து சேவையை வழங்க வேண்டுமென்று மனதார வாழ்த்துகிறேன்.

இந்த 30 ஆம் ஆண்டு விழா நிகழ்வில் உங்களுடன் இணைந்து கொண்டாடுவதில் பெருமையடைகிறேன். கடந்த மூன்று தசாப்தங்களாக, எங்கள் முன்னாள் மாணவர்கள் சங்கம் நமது கல்வி நிறுவனத்திற்கும் சமூகத்திற்கும் முக்கிய பங்காற்றி வருகிறது.
என்னுடைய பதவிக்காலத்தில், சங்கத்தின் முதன்மையான சமூகப் பணிகளில் ஒன்று, IMHO என்ற தொண்டு நிறுவனத்திற்கு சங்கத்தின் முதல் நன்கொடையாக $1,250 வழங்கிய தருணம். இது ஒரு முக்கிய மைல்கல்லாக அமைந்தது. மேலும், சிவபாதசுந்தரனார் மண்டப திருத்த வேலைகளுக்காக $5,000 நன்கொடை அனுப்பிய நிகழ்வும் சங்கத்தின் முக்கிய சாதனையாக இருந்தது.
அத்துடன், நிதி திரட்டும் நோக்கில், உலகப்புகழ் பெற்ற வீணை வாத்தியக் கலைஞர் ராஜேஷ் வைத்யா அவர்களின் வீணை இசை நிகழ்ச்சியை Ontario Science Centre - Auditorium அரங்கில் நடத்தினோம். இந்த நிகழ்வு சங்கத்திற்கும் சமூகத்திற்கும் பெரும் ஆதரவு பெற்ற மறக்க முடியாத முயற்சியாக அமைந்தது.
இந்தச் சிறப்பான தருணத்தில், சங்கத்தின் வளர்ச்சிக்காக உழைத்த அனைவருக்கும், முன்னாள் தலைவர்களுக்கும், உறுப்பினர்களுக்கும், ஆசிரியர்களுக்கும் என் மனமார்ந்த நன்றியும் பாராட்டுகளும். எதிர்காலத்திலும் நம் சங்கம் மேலும் உயரங்களை தொட, அனைவரும் ஒன்றுபட்டு செயல்பட வேண்டும் என விரும்புகிறேன்.

கனடா நாட்டில் வசிக்கும் யா/விக்ரோறியாக்கல்லூரியின் பழைய மாணவர்களாகிய தாங்கள் அந்த நாட்டில் கல்லூரியின் வளர்ச்சியில் அக்கறை கொண்டு மாணவர்களை ஒன்று திரட்டி ஒரு பழைய மாணவர் சங்கத்தை 1995 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆரம்பித்து 2025ம் ஆண்டுடன் 30 நிறைவடையும் இவ் வேளையில் எமது கல்லூரியின் பழைய மாணவர் சங்கத்தினருடன் (தாய்ச்சங்கம்) இணைந்து மாணவர்களின் கல்வி வளர்ச்சி, விளையாட்டு, கலை நிகழ்வுச்செயற்பாடுகளிற்கும் மற்றும் முக்கிய தேவைகளை அறிந்து எமது சங்கத்தினூடாக பண உதவிகளை வாரி வழங்கி வருகின்றீர்கள்.
எமது கல்லூரி 150வது ஆண்டை நோக்கி பயணித்துக்கொண்டு இருக்கும் வேளையில் உலகில் உள்ள எமது கல்லூரியின் அனைத்து பழைய மாணவர் சங்கங்களின் உதவிகள் முக்கியமாக தேவைப்படுகின்றது. அந்த வகையில் கனடா பழைய மாணவர் சங்கமாகிய தாங்கள் இன்னும் பல வருடங்கள் சிறப்பாக செயற்பட்டு 100வது ஆண்டு நிறைவடைய வேண்டும் என்று எமது சங்கத்தின் சார்பாக வாழ்த்துகின்றேன்.

It is indeed and honor to give a message to the Souvenir of the J/Chulipuram Victoria College Old Students' Association of the Canada Branch when they celebrate 30 years its wonderful service to the upliftment of the college in various ways. Since I have been in the J/Victoria College, Chulipuram Old Students' Association for a longer period, from 1994 continuously holding the various posts in the committee such as Assistant Secretary, Secretary, President and now as a Committee Member, I am aware how the Canada Branch has been functioning and helping to the College.
Whenever we need financial assistance for any works to be carried out in the college, Canada Branch helped us without any hesitation immediately. I can set an example that when we purchased lands for the expansion of 400 meters playground, I recollect my memories how far Canada OSA helped sending funds to purchase the adjoining lands. I do not want to mention the names who were in the front line to do such wonderful works from the inception of the OSA in Canada. Now this ground is the one helping most of the schools in the Valikamam West Area to have their events without any difficulties.
We all are going to celebrate completion of 150 years ceremony soon and action are being taken to celebrate in a grand scale here and we believe OSA of J/Victoria College functioning all over the world also will be proud in participating the same in the coming months. I believe that wherever we go and participate in a forum we all are proud to say that 'We are Victorian'. The Victorians are domiciled all over the world in higher positions showing their colors in different fields.
I wholeheartedly thank the Canada OSA having requested to send a message as a Past President which is highly appreciated and privileged to me to accommodate my message in the souvenir to be published. Let me congratulate your exemplary support to the college in the past and I pray the Almighty to continue to do so in the future as well and your celebration will be a hundred percent success.

விக்ரோறியாக் கல்லூரி எனும் நாமம் கொண்ட நாம் கற்றுக் கடைத்தேறிய அன்னையை முதலில் வணங்குகின்றேன். மானிடப் பண்பாட்டு நலம் கொண்ட ஆசிரியர்களை விக்ரோறியா அன்னை தன்னிடத்திலே கொண்டிருந்தமையால் நாமும் மனிதர்களாக வளர்ச்சிபெற வாய்ப்புக் கிடைத்து. நான் கற்ற ஆசிரியர்களில் பலர் தங்கள் பிள்ளைகள் போன்று எம்மை அரவணைத்து அறிவூட்டினார்கள். வாழக் கற்றுக் கொடுத்த அந்த ஆசிரியர்களையும் நன்றியுடன் வணங்குகின்றேன். நான் முதலில் எனது வீட்டுக்கு பக்கத்தில் இருந்த சுழிபுரம் அமெரிக்கன் மிஷன் தமிழ் கலவன் பாடசாலையில் கற்றேன். ஆறாவது வகுப்பில் விக்ரோறியா அன்னையிடம் சேர்ந்தேன். கல்லூரியில் ஆசிரியர்களின் அரவணைப்பில் எந்தவித கவலையும் இல்லாமல் மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் கற்பனவற்றைக் கற்றேன். விளையாட்டுகளிலும் பங்குபற்றி மகிழ்வெய்தினேன். விக்ரோறியா அன்னையிடமிருந்து பல்கலைக்கழகம் சென்ற முதல் பெண்மணி என்ற பெயரையும் தட்டிக் கொண்டேன்.
வாழ்வில் மனிதன் நன்றியுள்ளவராக வாழும் போதே மன நிம்மதி அடைய முடியும். அவ்வகையில் பெற்றோருக்கும் தான் பிறந்த ஊருக்கும் பாடசாலைக்கும் நன்றி உணர்வோடு சேவை செய்வதே உண்மையான வழிபாடாகும். அவ்வகையில் தாம் கற்ற கல்லூரி தாய்க்கு நன்றி செலுத்தும் வகையில் கனடா நாட்டில் ஒரு பழைய மாணவர் சங்கத்தை அமைத்து தொண்டு புரியும் உங்கள் அனைவரையும் வாழ்த்துவதில் பெருமகிழ்வடைகின்றேன். சங்கத்தின் மூலம் ஒற்றுமையுணர்வும் சேவை மனப்பான்மையும் மேலும் மேலும் வளர்ச்சி பெற விக்ரோறியா அன்னையின் பூமியில் இருந்து அருளாட்சி செய்யும் நடராஜப் பெருமானை வேண்டிக் கொள்கின்றேன். விக்ரோறியா அன்னையின் செல்வங்கள் ஆகிய பழைய மாணவர்களாகிய நாங்கள் எல்லோரும் எங்கள் உள்ளத்தில் அன்பைப் பெருக்கி உலக சமாதானத்திற்காகவும் பாடுபடுவோம். நற்பண்பே நல்ல மனிதரை உருவாக்குகின்றது. The OSA Canada community has always been and will be close to my heart and I am very proud to be associated with them, as during my presidential tenor in 2014, we were able to open up the 400m track on school grounds, which is being utilized effectively by the students. This wouldn’t have been possible without the financial support from the OSA Canada community. The school has benefited immensely with the involvement and active participation of the OSA Canada community.
Here's to 30 years of making memories, building connections, and honoring the values that define us as a community. May the future be filled with even greater achievements and a continued sense of belonging.

As the President of Victoria College Old Students Union (UK), it is a great pleasure to send this message for the 30th anniversary of the Victoria College Old Students Association (Canada).
We, as the alumni, are the foremost ambassadors for our school and currently play a vital role in the development of our Alma mater with our strong support. We nurture a rich culture among the alumni, which leads to the building of a strong and connected global alumni network.
Our global Alumni Associations are contributing in multiple ways. Across the years, we have provided financial support in order to improve our institution and offer current students with opportunities and resources we did not have. We are embarking together on a journey that would benefit both the alumni and our school.
At this juncture, I proudly say that our UK Old Students Union is also celebrating our 30th anniversary, as we inaugurated our Union in July 1995. The celebrations will be held in the middle of this year, and we cordially invite you all to join us.
Over the last 30 years, our UK branch have made huge contributions to the school. To mention a few: renovating the main hall, building the canteen and purchasing the land for one of the buildings. Our union donated around six thousand UK pounds to the tsunami fund in 2004. Recently, our union contributed nearly twelve lakhs Srilankan rupees for our 150th anniversary fund.
Finally, on behalf of the members and the executive committee of Chulipuram Victoria College Old Students Union (UK), I wish you success for your 30th Anniversary celebration.

அத்தோடு கூடி வாழ்ந்த எம்மை, தனித்து வாழும் தேசங்களில் தூக்கி எறியப்பட்ட போதினிலும், பனி படர்ந்த தேசங்களில் பாஷை தெரியாத ஊர்களில் தனித்து விடப்பட்டபோதினிலும், எம்மை எல்லாம் அந்தந்த நாடுகளில் தடம் பதித்து நிமிர்ந்து நிற்க உதவியதும், எமது கல்லூரி தந்த அறிவு என்பதை மறக்கவோ மறைக்கவோ முடியாது.
இப்படிப்பட்ட கல்விச்சேவையை செய்யும் எம் கல்லூரிக்கு மேலும் வலுவூட்டி எம்மை வழி தெரியாத ஊர்களில் விழி பிதுங்கி நிற்கும் வேளை, வழி காட்டிய அந்த கல்லூரி தாய்க்கு நன்றி செலுத்துவது மட்டுமல்லாமல் உறுதுணையாக நிற்பதும் எமது தலையாய கடமையாகும். அந்தவகையில் கனடா பழைய மாணவர் சங்கம் கடந்த முப்பது வருடமாக எமது பாடசாலை முன்னேற்றத்திற்கு தோளோடு தோள் நின்று பலவிதமான உதவிகளை வழங்கி வருகின்றது என்பதை இங்கு குறிப்பிடுவதில் பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சியடைகிறேன்.

கனடா விக்ரோறியா பழைய மாணவர் சங்கம், கனடா OSA என்ற விக்ரோறியாவின் பழைய மாணவர் அமைப்பானது தனது 30வருட நிறைவு நாளை மிகவும் சிறப்பாக கொண்டாடவுள்ளனர்.
புலம்பெயர் நாடுகளிலே உள்ள விக்ரோறியாவின் பழைய மாணவர் அமைப்புகளிலேயே ஒரு பெரிய பலமான அமைப்பாக கனடா பழைய மாணவர் அமைப்பு விளங்குகிறது.
அவர்கள் 30 வருடங்களுக்கு மேலாக எமது கல்லூரியின் வளர்ச்சியில் பெரிதும் அக்கறையும் ஈடுபாடும் கொண்டுள்னர் என்பது பலரும் அறிந்ததே, அவர்களின் பணி எமது கல்லூரிக்கு மிகவும் அவசியமானது. அவர்களின் உதவியால் எமது கல்லூரி மேன்மேலும் வளர்ச்சியடையும் என்பதில் எவ்வித சந்தேகமும் இல்லை.

விக்ரோறியாவில் பொருளியல் ஆசிரியனாக எனது முப்பத்து ஐந்தாவது வயதிலிருந்து எட்டு ஆண்டுகள் பணியாற்றினேன். என் அன்பு மாணவர் பலர் மூளை இல்லாத துப்பாக்கிகளால் கொல்லப்பட்டனர். துன்பியல் உணர்வோடு கற்பித்தேன். ஆனாலும் அன்பையும் பெருமையையும் பல மாணவர்கள் நிறையவே தந்தனர். இருளும் ஒளியும் நிறைந்த அந்த நாட்கள் நினைவில் நிறைந்து கிடக்கின்றன.

கனடா பழைய மாணவர்கள் சங்கத்தின் அமைப்பு முயற்சியில் ஈடுபட்ட புண்ணிய சீலர்கள் முதலில் பாராட்டப்பட வேண்டியவர்கள். “ஊரெல்லாம் கூடி ஒரு தேர் இழுப்பது போல” இந்தத் தேரையும் இழுக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால் இது பத்திரமான தேர். மிக தந்திரமாக இழுக்க வேண்டும். பிரதானமாக, விக்ரோறியா கல்லூரியில் அனுமதிக்கப்படும் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட ஜீவன்களின் மனங்களை மெது மெதுவாக உயர்த்தி கொண்டு சென்று கல்வியில் அறிவைப் பூரணப்படுத்தவும் கல்லூரி அர்த்தமுள்ள நடவடிக்கைகளை நடைமுறைப்படுத்த ஏனைய விடயங்களில் முன்மாதிரியாக செய்த பங்களிப்பைப் போல கனடா சங்கம் தமது பங்களிப்பை செய்ய வேண்டுமென வாழ்த்துகிறேன்.

Congratulations on your successful, continuous and sustained endeavor in assembling a community of Victoria College alumni in Canada and contributing towards the development of our alma mater for the last three decades.
Victoria College, Chulipuram, is one of the oldest and most prestigious educational institutions in the Northern Province. Founded by Canagaratnam Muthaliyar in (1876) the 19th century, the college played a significant role in the development of education and Tamil intellectual life in Sri Lanka.
An Englishman Mr. Willoughby Small was appointed as principal in 1910 due to a combination of colonial policy, educational strategy, and prestige-building motives. At the time, Ceylon was under British colonial rule. Appointing a British as principal was seen as a way to align the institution with colonial educational standards and gain prestige. Schools with British principals were often viewed as more reputable and were more likely to receive government support and grants.
Mr. Small was a highly educated Irish graduate. His appointment was likely intended to raise the academic profile of the school, introducing structured curricula, examinations, and connections to other elite institutions. Having a British principal facilitated smooth collaboration with the colonial Department of Education, helping the school integrate into the national system more effectively. This helped with curriculum development, recognition of qualifications, and resource allocation.
By the early 1900s, Victoria College was expanding in both size and influence. Appointing someone like Mr. Small was a strategic move to transition the school from a strong local institution into one recognized on par with the best schools in the island.
The college adopted English as a medium of instruction early on, aligning with the British colonial education system. It provided students with access to British curricula, including Cambridge local examinations, which enabled them to pursue higher education abroad. It quickly became a center for English and Tamil education, preparing students for entrance into universities and civil service.
Canagaratnam Muthaliyar hereby demonstrated “adaptability” is the strength of human race for successful survival in any challenging environment. I am grateful for inheriting this trait from Chulipuram and from Victoria College.

Before the formal establishment of JVC OSA Canada, efforts were already underway behind the scenes, both in Sri Lanka and among the growing Tamil diaspora in Canada. Former Principal Mr. K. Chandrapalan, who led Victoria College during a particularly challenging period, recognized the pressing need for sustained financial support to address resource shortages while introducing new academic initiatives. He proposed the idea of forming overseas Old Students’ Associations as a means to raise funds, invest them securely, and use the income to support the school’s critical needs. This vision was strongly endorsed and furthered by the late Mr.K.Arunasalam, former Principal and then-President of the Colombo Old Students’ Association, and the late Mr.S.K.Indirarasa, former Vice Principal of Victoria College. Their leadership and coordination with alumni abroad, particularly in Canada, laid the groundwork for what would soon become JVC OSA Canada.
In Canada, the initiative gained momentum through a series of informal gatherings at the residence of Mr. K. Sivasubramaniam, a senior alumnus and key organizer. These discussions culminated in the official formation of JVC OSA Canada at its inaugural meeting, held on February 12, 1995, at Applewood Heights Secondary School in Mississauga.
At this foundational gathering, the first executive committee (1995–2000) was nominated, with Mr.R.Balasubramaniam as President, Mr.K.Sivasubramaniam as Patron, Mr.K.Sivaarulrasa as Secretary, and Mr.V.Balachandran as Treasurer. Although Mr.K.Sivasubramaniam was initially considered for the presidency, he respectfully declined due to health reasons, choosing instead to serve as Patron and provide trusted guidance to the newly appointed leadership team. His mentorship proved instrumental in shaping the association’s early direction and long-term vision.
President R. Balasubramaniam set an ambitious tone, stressing the urgent needs of the college – from deteriorating buildings to lack of lab equipment and sports facilities – and proposed a fundraising target of C$15,000. The response was immediate: members at the inaugural meeting spontaneously contributed about C$5,000, enabling an initial remittance of Rs 200,000 (approximately C$3,630 in 1995) to the school. These funds were placed in a fixed deposit in Sri Lanka so that the interest could support the school’s immediate needs.
At the inaugural meeting, following a discussion regarding membership fees, the house unanimously decided on an annual fee of $15. The committee was also entrusted with the responsibility of drafting a constitution to be approved at a future special General Meeting. By the end of this term, the association had laid a strong foundation: it had a formal structure, a growing membership, and had made its first significant financial contribution to J/Victoria College.
Despite this early success, the late 1990s proved challenging. Owing to various reasons – including the diaspora’s dispersal and Sri Lanka’s civil conflict – the branch became less active in the late 1990s. Regular meetings waned after the initial enthusiasm. However, Patron K.Sivasubramaniam and key members kept the flame alive informally, staying in touch with the college’s principal and assessing needs. Their perseverance set the stage for a revival. After a brief dormancy, the OSA was revived in mid-2001 at a well-attended alumni picnic on June 24, 2001. The 2000–2002 executive committee emerged from this revival, with President Mr.S.Sivaram at the helm (Patron K.Sivasubramaniam continued in his role). Mr.S.Thulakanathan served as Secretary and Mr.K.Muthukrishnan as Treasurer. President S.Sivaram was a dynamic leader who immediately infused new energy into the association.
The year 2001 marked the 125th Anniversary of J/Victoria College, and the committee seized the opportunity to celebrate it in grand fashion. In 2001, they organized an elaborate 125th Anniversary celebration and dinner in Toronto, featuring Mr. N. Logenthiralingam (a distinguished old boy and newspaper editor) as chief guest and a keynote speech by Mr. Samy Appathurai. A souvenir magazine was published to commemorate the occasion, and, in an unprecedented gesture, several retired teachers were honored at the event – a heartfelt idea conceived by President Sivaram. The committee worked tirelessly to gather content and advertisements for the souvenir, fostering a strong sense of connection among alumni. Mr. G. Sivapiragasam's unwavering dedication was instrumental in ensuring the souvenir's timely completion, further enhancing the celebratory spirit of the event.
Fundraising was another focus of this term. In September 2001, the association held a charity movie show to raise funds. The show proved fruitful: its proceeds, combined with accumulated donations, were utilized to purchase 9 Lachams of land adjacent to the college playground – the first phase of a major “Playground Extension Project”. Additionally, at the association’s appeal, the family of the late Mr. Suppiah Udayar(a prominent local figure) generously donated funds to acquire 4 extra Lachams, bringing the total to 13 Lachams of new land for expanding the school’s playground. This was a landmark achievement – the first time the diaspora directly financed a land purchase for the college’s infrastructure. The combined cost was about C$8,670 (Rs 520,000) at the time, reflecting the significant fundraising drive spearheaded by President Sivaram and supported by Treasurer Muthukrishnan’s prudent handling of funds. The 13-Lacham plot (often referred to as the “Oviyapulam land, Lot #4”) would lay the groundwork for a much-needed sports ground for students.
As 2002 approached, JVC OSA Canada had not only reactivated itself but had also delivered a major contribution to the school. Under Patron K. Sivasubramaniam’s steady guidance, they ensured that plans – especially the playground project – stayed on course.

Meanwhile, the playground extension project continued to progress. The prior committee’s purchase of 13 Lachams of land was a major step, but more land was needed to fully extend the playground. During 2002–2003, OSA Canada stayed in close contact with the school administration regarding further land acquisition. Notably, the college had taken a short-term loan locally to secure additional parcels adjoining the new land. The 2002–2003 committee began raising funds to reimburse this loan. Plans were made for a substantial remittance to cover the purchase of the next segments (Lot #5) once the funds were pooled. Although the actual payment was executed by the subsequent committee, it was this team that initiated the fundraising drive and rallied the alumni around the continuation of the project.

The 2003–2005 executive committee took office at the end of 2003, intent on executing the projects set in motion earlier. Led by President Mr. T. Alagarajah (the son of a former Manager of Victoria College), with Patron K. Sivasubramaniam continuing to offer wisdom, this team included Ms. K. Vijayadevy as Secretary (continuing from the previous term) and Mr. R. Muralitharan as Treasurer (also continuing his role). Under President Alagarajah’s leadership, the association broadened its outreach and fulfilled major promises to the school.
One significant contribution during this period was in the literary and cultural arena. The association supported the publication of the book *A Life in Tune with God*, written by Dr. Nagalingam Chellappah, an old boy of the school. The publication expenses were generously covered by Mrs. Jeya Mahinthan, while JVC OSA Canada assisted with the book's release in 2004 by coordinating the launch event and helping with the publishing process. This initiative honored the accomplishments of a distinguished alumnus and reflected the association’s ongoing commitment to celebrating alumni achievements and cultural heritage.
Earlier, the school had borrowed money locally to quickly acquire additional land for the playground extension. Fulfilling the pledge initiated in 2002–03, OSA Canada remitted funds to reimburse that loan and finalize the land ownership. In total, an additional C$8,500 was sent to purchase the remaining plots – comprising 7 Lachams (north side) and 6 Lachams (east side) of land (Lot #5) adjacent to the previously bought area. This remittance, funded by the generous contributions of Canadian alumni, corresponded to roughly Rs 637,000 (at prevailing rates) and secured the entire area envisioned for the expanded playground. By mid-2005, JVC OSA Canada had thus purchased a total of 26 Lachams of land (13 from the earlier phase and 13 in this phase) for the college’s future sports ground. Patron K. Sivasubramaniam, President Alagarajah, and Secretary Vijayadevy each visited Jaffna separately during this period to gather first-hand information on the progress of the playground project. Their presence at the school signaled the diaspora’s active involvement and helped coordinate the next steps. This personal visit by the Patron-President team reinforced ties with the local school administration and ensured transparency and alignment in how the project was being carried out.
A key initiative during this period was the establishment of a Term Scholarship Fund... Dr. Rachel Navaneelan and Mrs. Seethathevy Sivagananam made generous donations. The 2003–2005 term was also lively on the community engagement front, organizing annual get-togethers and a Lift Lock boat cruise in Peterborough.
The 2003–2005 executive committee was dedicated not only to actively developing the school but also to preserving the legacy of its founder. During this term, descendants of the school's founder, who were visiting from Singapore, were honored at a special dinner hosted by Mrs. Y. Maharani—an active committee member during this term and Assistant Secretary in the founding executive committee (1995– 2000). This meaningful gathering further strengthened historical ties and highlighted the association’s deep appreciation for the founder’s family.
In mid-2005, the committee organized the AGM and annual get-together in Brampton park, incorporating sports activities for children and adults. Mr. Kannan, serving as Sports Secretary, arranged friendly games and prizes. The event also included a special recognition for Mr. V. Kanthasamy, an active member of JVC OSA Chulipuram visiting from Sri Lanka. These informal gatherings helped maintain member enthusiasm and encouraged continued engagement with the association’s mission.
The 2003–2005 executive committee significantly expanded the association’s impact by securing all remaining land needed for the college playground, nurturing a sustainable scholarship fund, and engaging alumni through cultural and social events. By mid-2005, under President T. Mr. T. Shanmuganathan assumed the presidency. One of the first successes of this period was the culmination of the fundraising raffle initiated earlier. The raffle draw took place in December 2005 at a year-end dinner event, with a distinguished old boy, Mr. Balachandran (the first Victoria College alumnus to enter the Engineering faculty, and the evening’s chief guest), drawing the winning tickets. The raffle was a resounding success: it netted about C$6,200 for the association. This was a significant boost to OSA Canada’s general fund.
In August 2006, JVC OSA Canada arranged a memorable outing – a 1000 Islands sightseeing cruise in Kingston, Ontario – which combined recreation with fundraising. Treasurer M. Sudharshan, known for his energetic organizing skills, led this initiative (as he had done with the 2004 boat trip), this time assisted by Mr. S. Jeyakanthan. The day-long cruise on August 26, 2006 was a wonderful experience; alumni families enjoyed scenic views and camaraderie. It also modestly benefited the association’s coffers: the Summer 2006 Kingston 1000 Islands Cruise generated about C$1,250 in total income. The trip was even featured on Canadian Tamil Radio by an enthusiastic participant who went on-air to praise the event. These cultural and social activities exemplify how the 2005–07 committee kept the alumni network vibrant while quietly raising funds.
The 2005–2007 executive committee recognized the importance of establishing a strong online presence and decided to develop an official website for JVC OSA Canada. In November 2006, the official web domain () was initially registered by Mr. M. Sudharshan. During this term, with support from young alumni possessing IT expertise, the association successfully launched its first official website, marking an important milestone in digital engagement for JVC OSA Canada.
One of the notable accomplishments of the 2005–2007 executive committee was the successful planning and publication of the 12th Anniversary Special Edition Souvenir Book of JVC OSA Canada. Recognizing the importance of preserving the association’s history and honoring its contributors, the committee undertook the task of collecting archival photographs, past records, and written reflections from alumni. The souvenir, published in July 2007, featured key milestones, messages from past leaders, and historical highlights, serving as a proud testament to the association’s 12-year journey. In September 2007, the committee organized a trip to the 30,000 Islands, creating a memorable experience for participants and their families. The event not only strengthened community ties but also generated net proceeds of $2,460, which supported subsequent association activities.
In January 2008, as part of the school’s Fine Arts program, a practical Bharatanatyam demonstration was produced on a CD and introduced. Building on that, the Association used funds from its administrative budget to provide a valuable resource, which earned praise from the local community.
In March 2008, a 125th-anniversary commemorative book was published by the school and sent to the Association for local distribution. The Association provided partial sponsorship, contributing $1,142, which helped ensure wider circulation among alumni who had not yet seen it, reinforcing the link to the college’s storied past.
In October 2008, an autumn excursion was organized: alumni and families enjoyed a ride on the Credit Valley Explorer Train through the scenic fall foliage. While primarily a social outing, events like these kept the diaspora network active and supportive.
Throughout this term, scholarship and student support programs remained active. In 2007, Mr. R. Balasubramaniyam of Mississauga donated C$2,300 to the University Entrance Students Motivation Fund in memory of the late Mr. Kumar. In late 2008 and 2009, additional contributions were made to the Term Scholarship Fund. In October 2008, an alumna, Mrs. Jeya of Scarborough, donated C$1,000 in memory of Mr. Sellappah. In October 2009, Mr. T. Alagarajah (by then an active past president) contributed C$1,000 in memory of Mr. Thambiah. These donations were promptly transferred to the school’s scholarship accounts.
In early 2009, OSA Canada provided funds for urgent facility upgrades at Victoria College. Notably, in March 2009, the association sponsored the installation of new flooring (tiles) in a recently constructed school building as well as equipment for the school cricket team. For these improvements, approximately Rs 150,000 was allocated for the floor tiles and Rs 45,270 for cricket gear and uniforms. This totaled around C$1,667 + C$503 respectively at the 2009 exchange rate. These contributions improved the learning environment (a clean, tiled floor for classrooms) and bolstered student morale through sports during a difficult time.
In mid 2009, through coordination with the principal and local OSA, the 2007–09 committee identified pressing needs and sent a special financial assistance designated for a "Special Need Program" at the school. A sum of approximately C$1,021 was transferred to aid this program.
Throughout their tenure, the 2007–2009 Executive Committee navigated significant challenges while upholding JVC OSA Canada’s commitment to its alma mater. Their leadership fostered community engagement through memorable events, supported critical school upgrades, and expanded scholarship programs. A key initiative during the 2009–2011 term was the renovation of the Sivapathasundaram Conference Hall, a facility named after a former principal. In response to a request from the school, JVC OSA Canada provided C$4,928 in 2010 for major repairs, restoring the hall as a functional and safe space for meetings and school-related events.
In May 2010, the association hosted a classical veena concert featuring the world-famous Veena Artist Rajesh Vaidhya. Titled “Then Sindhuthe”, the event was held at the Imperial Oil Auditorium in the Ontario Science Centre on May 9, 2010. This high-profile cultural event was a major success, attracting music lovers and alumni alike. It raised significant funds – a net income of C$3,590 – which were earmarked for future school development projects.
Another practical contribution of this term was the provision of much-needed equipment and supplies to the school. In early 2011, JVC OSA Canada donated a brand new lawn mower for the maintenance of the expanded school grounds. With the enlarged playground and fields, keeping the grass trimmed had become a challenge; the motorized lawn mower (costing about C$442) was a welcome gift that made upkeep more efficient.
In May 2011, the 2009–2011 executive committee received the deeply saddening news of the passing of Mr. K. Sivasubramaniam, the founding Patron who had been serving in the role at that time. His unwavering dedication and invaluable leadership profoundly shaped the association’s early years. His loss was felt deeply by the entire JVC OSA Canada community, and his legacy continues to inspire future generations.
The 2009–2011 executive committee successfully organized the Annual Get-Together and Annual General Meeting on September 4, 2011, at L'Amoreaux Park in Scarborough. The event brought together alumni, teachers, and well-wishers for a day of games, food, and community bonding, while also marking the transition to the next leadership team.
Subsequently, the association collaborated with IMHO-Canada (International Medical Health Organization – Canada) to contribute C$1,250 —drawn from the show’s proceeds—toward the “New Mother Program” in Jaffna, underscoring its commitment to community welfare.

In 2011, a new executive committee took office, leading JVC OSA Canada through a four-year term of ambitious reconstruction and major development projects. Mr. V. Balachandran returned as President (having previously served in 2002–03), bringing continuity and visionary leadership. This term also saw a change in the Patron: Mr. T. Shanmuganathan (immediate past president) was appointed Patron, succeeding Mr. K. Sivasubramaniam during 2011–2015. The executive team comprised Mr. S. Jeyakanthan as Secretary and Mr. M. Sudharshan continuing as Treasurer. Under President Balachandran’s guidance, this committee capitalized on the stable period to realize long-held dreams: a modern sports ground and robust academic support systems.
In November 2011, the committee addressed the school’s pressing need for improved administrative capabilities by allocating funds for a new photocopier. Costing approximately C$885 (equivalent to Rs 100,000), this vital addition streamlined day-to-day operations and boosted overall efficiency in the school office.
In April 2012, JVC OSA Canada teamed up with the Maple Lions Club at a local festival and ran a food booth, contributing proceeds to charity (around C$600). Such collaborations increased the association’s visibility in the wider community.
In September 2012, the association held an “Explore Muskoka” fall cruise, which yielded a net income of C$1,700.
This term was also rich in cultural collaboration. In July 2013, JVC OSA Canada partnered with the Australian OSA to host “Kalai Malaipozhuthu 2013,” a joint cultural program. This event, held in Sri Katpagavinayagar Temple hall, Brampton as an evening of music and dance, not only celebrated the shared heritage of Victoria College alumni worldwide but also raised C$3,226. During this event, OSA Canada honored Mr. Elankumaran, the President of JVC OSA Australia, highlighting the camaraderie between the branches. These gestures reinforced a global Victoria College alumni network bound by mutual respect and cooperation.
The headline achievement of the committee was the execution of the Playground Development Project to its full extent. Having acquired land for the expanded playground in earlier years, the association now moved to develop that land into a functional sports field. In April 2013, JVC OSA Canada sent a major installment of funds for land development and a 400-meter track expansion, amounting to Rs 2,000,000 (approximately C$16,000). This investment enabled the clearing, leveling, and preparation of the ground to accommodate a standard 400m athletics track and additional play space. By partnering with the local school authorities and Old Students’ Association in Chulipuram, the Canadian OSA ensured the work was carried out to specification. During this period, OSA Canada Advisor Mrs. K. Vijayadevi and Secretary Mr. S. Jeyakanthan visited the school for the land purchase event.
February 2014 saw the joyous Opening Ceremony of the new Ground, an event proudly sponsored by OSA Canada. The association covered the event expenses (about C$885, or Rs 100,000). As part of the event, Mr. and Mrs. Yogalingam Maharani represented the OSA Canada as the chief guests, an honor warmly received by the school’s administration. At this ceremony, the contributions of JVC OSA Canada over two decades were lauded. This moment was a pinnacle in the history of JVC OSA Canada: a tangible, physical legacy for current and future students – a sprawling sports ground – built with diaspora generosity and love.
In April 2014, riding on the success of previous cultural events, the association organized a second Rajesh Vaidhya Veena concert. This event was another triumph, raising C$6,500 for the association’s coffers. These funds were crucial for replenishing the treasury after the massive outlays for the playground project.
By 2015, the achievements of this executive committee were truly remarkable. Major construction projects like the playground were completed, educational programs like scholarships and prize funds were strengthened, and the alumni community was more connected than ever. President V. Balachandran’s leadership in this term left an indelible mark: he expertly balanced large-scale projects with grassroots support initiatives. The 2015–2017 executive committee term saw Mr. V. Balachandran re-elected for a second consecutive term (and his third overall) as President, providing steady and experienced leadership. Patron Mr. T. Shanmuganathan continued in his role. Mr. M. Sudharshan, having served as Treasurer for many years, stepped into the role of Secretary, while Mr. S. Jeyakanthan, the former Secretary, took on the responsibilities of Treasurer. This swapping of key roles ensured that institutional knowledge was retained within the core team. The committee focused on finishing touches to the major infrastructure projects and deepening the scholarship programs.
In October 2015, the “Suppiah Udayar Theivanaipillai Memorial Stage” was completed at the edge of the playground in honor of late Mr. Suppiah Udayar & Mrs. Theivanaipillai. His family contributed the bulk of the 38 lakhs LKR (approximately C$32,000) construction cost, with JVC OSA Canada facilitating the process. The raised stage now serves as a venue for assemblies and school events, and during sports meets, it provides a formal platform for ceremonies such as prize distributions. Its addition has helped realize the vision of a fully equipped playground that supports both recreational and official school functions.
The Term Scholarship Fund saw continued growth through memorial contributions in this period. In August 2015, Mr. M. Sudharshan (now Secretary) made a heartfelt contribution of C$2,630 in memory of his father, the late Mr. Muthucumaraswamy. This particular donation was designated to establish a university scholarship for a high-achieving graduate of Victoria College to help with university expenses. Meanwhile, Mrs. Jeyanthi Ratnakumar, an old girl of Victoria College and longtime patron of arts (who had earlier assisted the association with her veena concert tickets) donated C$1,000 via her Veenalaya Music School in July 2015. Though this donation was not tied to a specific memorial, it was added to the general scholarship/endowment funds in the accounts. In April 2017, Mrs. Kavitha Sugunan (USA) contributed C$1,283 in memory of her aunt, Mrs. Ponmalar Rajeswaran, to establish an Education Fund. The money was transferred to the school.
On the project side, there were a few remaining tasks in the playground and facilities improvements which this term addressed. In April 2016, OSA Canada transferred Rs 250,000 (around C$2,273 at the time) to the local OSA to clear the last expenses of the playground project. In April 2017, another school need was met: the association sent Rs 100,000 (approx. C$893) for sports and athletics transportation assistance.
Throughout their tenure, the 2015–2017 executive committee successfully continued long-standing initiatives, including the Term Scholarship Fund and playground improvements, while simultaneously embarking on new landmark projects like the Suppiah Udayar Theivanaipillai Memorial Stage. This blend of respecting ongoing traditions and introducing impactful new contributions characterized their leadership. Through diligent stewardship and strategic fundraising, the committee enhanced school infrastructure, expanded academic support, and strengthened the bonds within the alumni community, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations of students and alumni alike.

The 2017–2019 executive committee was led by returning President Mr. T. Alagarajah, who had previously served during the 2003–2005 term and returned to steer the association's next chapter. Patron Mr. T. Shanmuganathan continued in his role from the previous term, and founding President Mr. R. Balasubramaniam also joined to guide the executive committee. However, since both patrons could not actively participate due to age and health considerations, Mr. S. Erambamoorthy was appointed as an additional Patron to support committee activities. This marked the first time the association had more than one Patron. The committee included a mix of experienced and new members: Ms. K. Vijayadevy returned as Secretary, bringing her extensive institutional knowledge from her previous role as President during 2007– 2009, and Mr. V. Thasan took on the role of Treasurer in his first term as an executive officer. The 2017–2019 period was one of renewal, as the association welcomed a younger generation into leadership positions and expanded its international collaborations.
A notable strategic initiative of this term was the creation of a Life Members’ Long-Term Fund. Recognizing the importance of sustainability, President T. Alagarajah’s team collected contributions from life members (one-time membership fees and donations) and in January 2019 placed C$5,000 into a fixed deposit in Sri Lanka. This deposit, made in the National Savings Bank (NSB) in Jaffna, was intended to serve as an endowment fund, generating interest that could be used for the emergency school needs. The idea was that the principal would remain intact, growing with occasional additions, while interest earnings (and only interest) might be spent – effectively creating a perpetual fund. By starting this fund, the 2017–19 committee demonstrated foresight in planning for the association’s longevity beyond active fundraising years.
This term also marked the beginning of a vibrant new tradition: the Pongal Vizha. On January 21st, 2018, JVC OSA Canada hosted its inaugural Pongal festival event. It was designed as a cultural celebration rather than a strict fundraiser, aiming to bring families together in a festive atmosphere. The event was a resounding success, fostering a sense of community and cultural pride.
Encouraged by the Pongal Vizha 2018’s success, the committee organized another Pongal Vizha event on February 19th, 2019, which was similarly well-attended, primarily serving as community outreach while essentially breaking even financially. These Pongal celebrations have since become signature events for JVC OSA Canada, effectively combining cultural festivities, alumni networking, and modest fundraising through on-site raffles.
One of the significant milestones during the 2017–2019 term was the introduction of an official logo for JVC OSA Canada. Until then, the school's logo had served as the official emblem. The idea for a unique association logo was proposed by Mr. Muralitharan Kathirgamanathan, a young, active, and dedicated member who also volunteered to design it. Mr. Kathirgamanathan presented the initial draft in April 2019, which was subsequently approved by the executive committee.
The newly established official Facebook page was first publicly utilized on December 14th, 2017, to announce the Thai Pongal Vizha event. Recognizing the importance of a strong digital presence, the 2017–2019 executive committee decided to reacquire JVC OSA Canada's official web domain (). The domain had originally been registered in November 2006 but became inactive after several years of community service, following data loss caused by a technical glitch. The domain eventually expired in November 2017. On February 8th, 2018, Mr. Thathees Sivasubramaniam re-registered the domain and sponsored its renewal expenses, thus preserving the organization's digital legacy. The committee chose to temporarily redirect visitors to the official JVC OSA Canada Facebook page until the need arose for a dedicated new website.
During this term, JVC OSA Canada also placed emphasis on recognition and appreciation of individuals who contributed to the school’s success. On July 27th 2018, the association honored Mr. U. Umapathy, a past president of JVC OSA Chulipuram. He was presented with a recognition award by OSA Canada for strengthening alumni ties across continents. Similarly, on August 26th 2018, the association organized a special event to honor a retired Victoria College teacher, Mr. S. Rajendran, who was visiting Canada. Mr. Rajendran had taught many of the alumni in the 1970s and 80s; the OSA felicitated him with a plaque and a ceremony, acknowledging his decades of service. These gestures not only delighted the honorees but also reinforced the value of dedicated educators and volunteers in the Victoria College community.
2018 was an eventful year for engaging the broader community. The association partnered with an old student of Victoria College, Mr. Vijayanathan, to co-host a “Super Singer” Show in Toronto on August 5th 2018. This show, featuring performers from a popular Tamil singing competition, drew a large crowd. OSA Canada’s role was to assist in logistics and promotion; in return, a portion of the proceeds went to the association’s fund. The partnership model was beneficial – it raised the association’s profile and brought in some revenue without the need for organizing an entire event from scratch.
During the 2017 -2019 term, the association received the sad news of the passing of Mr. T. Shanmuganathan, who had served the community in many roles—including as a former teacher at Victoria College, and later as President and Patron of JVC OSA Canada. His long-standing dedication, mentorship, and quiet leadership left a meaningful and lasting impact on the association. His contributions are remembered with deep respect and sincere gratitude.
The 2017–2019 executive committee successfully balanced tradition with innovation, focusing on cultural identity, global collaboration, and financial sustainability. Their term featured meaningful events such as the annual Pongal Vizha, appreciation ceremonies, strategic partnerships, and the establishment of a long-term fund for future stability. Through their thoughtful initiatives and inclusive leadership, the committee strengthened alumni connections, celebrated the school's heritage, and positioned JVC OSA Canada securely for continued growth and impact.

The 2019–2023 executive committee navigated a period marked by unforeseen challenges and necessary adaptation, particularly due to the global COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2020. Mr. S. Thulakanathan was elected as President during the Annual General Meeting on August 25, 2019, notably returning after previously serving as Secretary from 2000 to 2002. This term included two Patrons— Mr. S. Erambamoorthy and founding President Mr. R. Balasubramaniam—who provided active support and guidance to the committee’s work. The committee benefited significantly from the experience of Secretary Mr. S. Jeyakanthan (returning to the position he held during 2011–2015) and Treasurer Mr. M. Sudharshan, both seasoned contributors whose leadership proved invaluable during pandemic-related disruptions. The term was characterized by resilience, innovative fundraising methods, and steadfast commitment to meeting the school's needs despite limitations on in-person events.
January 26th 2020 witnessed a successful fundraising movie screening – the Tamil historical film “Sinamkol” was shown in Toronto under OSA Canada’s banner. The net income from the Sinamkol show, including on-site donations, was about C$2,000. These funds were directed towards the general fund.
The 2019–2023 executive committee began officially using the newly approved JVC OSA Canada logo, designed by Mr. Muralitharan Kathirgamanathan and approved by the previous 2017–2019 committee. The logo was first utilized publicly in January 2020 for promotional materials related to the fundraising movie event held that month. The introduction of the new logo gave the association a distinct visual identity, symbolizing its evolution while honoring its roots.
The onset of COVID-19 in March 2020 forced a major pivot in the association’s approach. Traditional gatherings like dinners, shows, and get-togethers were suddenly impossible. Demonstrating remarkable adaptability, the 2019–2023 committee shifted to virtual events. January 29th 2022 saw the first-ever Virtual Pongal Vizha via Zoom. Though physically apart, alumni from across Canada (and even globally) logged in to celebrate the harvest festival together. The virtual format allowed for a program of speeches, pre-recorded performances, and interactive sessions, keeping the community spirit alive during lockdowns.
On January 8, 2022, JVC OSA World hosted a virtual event via Zoom due to COVID-19 restrictions, during which two distinguished alumni from Canada—Mr. Balachandran Vinayagamoorthy and Mr. Thigamparalingam Appapillai—received the Victorian's Distinguished Alumni Award. This special recognition honored their exceptional contributions and dedicated service to the Victoria College community.
Throughout the term, the association never lost sight of its core mission: supporting J/Victoria College’s development. In 2021, JVC OSA Canada contributed to a cause beyond the school but close to the hearts of the Tamil community – the Tamil Chair initiative. Specifically, in March 2021 the association donated C$2,000 towards the establishment of a Tamil Studies Chair at University of Toronto. This donation, while not directly for the school, underscored the association’s commitment to promoting Tamil language and heritage on a global stage, a vision that Victoria College (as a Tamil-medium institution) had imparted to its students. The executive committee felt that contributing to the Tamil Chair was a fitting way to honor the broader educational legacy of their alma mater during its 145th year (2021).
Several meaningful projects at the school were carried out with the support of OSA Canada between 2020 and 2023. One such project was the installation of a new front entrance fence and national school board and emblem (logo) signage in January 2022. This facelift greatly improved curb appeal and gave current students a visual reminder of alumni investment. Similarly, in December 2022, OSA Canada funded a critical maintenance need by paying for the repair of the school’s water supply pipeline. Treasurer Sudharshan managed these transfers even amid banking slowdowns during COVID, coordinating closely with the principal and OSA, Chulipuram.
Recognizing the importance of establishing a strong online presence, the 2019–2023 committee decided in February 2022 to develop and maintain an official website for JVC OSA Canada. Although the official web domain () had been re-registered in February 2018, it had previously only been used to redirect visitors to the official Facebook page. The new website was developed from scratch by Mr. Thathees Sivasubramaniam and officially launched on May 8th, 2022. Mr. M. Sudharshan played a significant role by providing historical information and valuable photographs, enabling the site to effectively showcase the association’s rich history and key milestones. The successful launch of this website substantially strengthened JVC OSA Canada's digital presence, improved global alumni communication, and helped preserve the organization's legacy for future generations.
During the 2019–2023 term, the executive committee received the sad news of the passing of former teacher Mr. Muthukumarasamy Sharma, as well as the founding President and Patron, Mr. R. Balasubramaniam. Their dedication, leadership, and commitment significantly shaped the association’s growth over the years. Their loss was deeply mourned by the entire JVC OSA Canada community, and their invaluable contributions and wisdom will be honored and remembered with profound respect and gratitude.

The 2023–2025 executive committee of JVC OSA Canada, coinciding with the association’s 30th anniversary, was formed at the Annual General Meeting held during the Family Fun Day on July 9, 2023, at Milliken District Park in Scarborough. Following the presentation of the Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports, a new executive committee was elected to carry forward the association’s mission. Mr. Sureshkumar (Suresh) Tharmalingam, a longtime contributor, returned to lead the organization as President. He had previously served as Assistant Secretary during the 2000–2002 term, as Vice President from 2011–2015, and most recently as an Advisor during the 2019– 2023 term. His enduring commitment over more than two decades brought both institutional memory and a forward-thinking vision to the role. Mr. Thatheewaran (Thathees) Sivasubramaniam, who had served as Editor during 2017–2019 and actively maintained the association’s website during the 2019–2023 term, was appointed Secretary — a natural progression for someone deeply involved in digital outreach and recordkeeping. Mr. Sivappiragasam(Siva) Gnanappiragasam, also a continuous member of the executive committee since 2000, was elected Treasurer. He had previously served as Editor from 2002–2003 and again from 2007–2015, consistently contributing to the preservation and promotion of the association’s message and memory. With a legacy of uninterrupted service across various roles over two decades, he brought exceptional continuity, experience, and dedication to the committee’s leadership.
On August 14th, 2023, the Executive Committee hosted a meaningful gathering to honor Mrs. Punithavathy Sivasubramaniam, an executive member of the J/Victoria College Old Students Association Chulipuram. While in Canada on personal matters, Mrs. Punithavathy Sivasubramaniam was applauded for her selfless and devoted service to the college. But this event was far more than a simple tribute to Mrs. Punithavathy Sivasubramaniam's individual contributions. It served as an interactive platform where she addressed the members of the JVC OSA Canada Executive Committee. Her articulate presentation covered an array of topics, including an inside look into the activities of the Victoria College Old Students Association, an honest evaluation of the current state of the college, and an emphasis on the essential role played by foreign old students Associations in supporting the institution. The ceremony was more than just a routine thank you. It gave off a feeling of togetherness and common goal that shows the deep values of J/Victoria College. By highlighting Mrs. Punithavathy Sivasubramaniam's hard work, the event became a sign of the close ties that bind the college's alumni, no matter where they are in the world.
The committee organized a special screening of the film “Sopana Sundari” in December 2023. This event served a dual purpose: raising funds for the association and bringing the community together for an evening of entertainment. The proceeds supported the ongoing operational costs and specific projects for the college.
Building friendship and connection among North American alumni was another priority. The committee established an official North America JVC OSA Canada WhatsApp group as a read-only channel for sharing news and announcements with the wider alumni network. This initiative helped reconnect members across Canada and the USA, increasing awareness of OSA activities beyond the core Toronto-area membership.
One of the notable contributions of this committee was its direct financial support to J/Victoria College in Sri Lanka. Responding to a request from the school’s administration at the beginning of 2024, OSA Canada agreed to fund the salary of a part-time Second Language teacher to address a staffing gap. The committee committed Rs. 15,000 LKR per month for one year (a total of LKR 180,000) toward this teacher’s salary, while also encouraging the college administration to expedite the hiring of a permanent teacher for the role. Though modest in amount, this timely support helped ensure continuity in the school’s language instruction and reflected the ongoing commitment of overseas alumni to the academic well-being of their alma mater.
From the outset, the 2023–2025 committee focused on engaging the alumni community and expanding membership. They continued the tradition of organizing annual alumni gatherings: the Summer Family Picnic 2024 was successfully held on July 7, 2024, at Meadowvale Conservation Area Park in Mississauga. The event featured fun games, a barbecue, and a special guest appearance by Prof. Sinnathambi, former Economics teacher at Victoria College (1983–1988), who was warmly welcomed by attendees. Building on that success, plans were already laid for the 2025 picnic, scheduled at the same location on July 27, 2025. These events, along with the inaugural 2023 Family Fun Day, have provided informal and festive settings for old classmates, families, and friends to reconnect and celebrate their enduring Victorian spirit.
The committee also introduced online membership applications, making it easier for alumni to join as new members. Both new and existing members were given the option to pay their fees conveniently through electronic transfer, streamlining the process and enhancing accessibility.
A defining endeavor of the 2023–2025 committee was the planning and execution of JVC OSA Canada’s 30th Anniversary celebrations. Recognizing three decades of alumni camaraderie since the association’s founding in the 1990s, the committee aimed to commemorate this milestone in a grand yet meaningful way. Early in their term, President Suresh Tharmalingam prompted discussions on the anniversary’s significance – not only as a celebration, but as an opportunity to boost membership and honor the contributions of previous committees. It was decided that the 30th anniversary event would be a special gala separate from regular picnics, preferably an indoor evening program to accommodate a larger audience and formal program. By January 2025, the committee had drafted a detailed plan and budget for a 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner, targeting late April 2025 for the event. Mississauga was chosen as the ideal location, to attract alumni from across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
As part of its commitment to supporting J/Victoria College’s modernization efforts, the 2023–2025 Executive Committee of JVC OSA Canada donated a digital smart board, valued at approximately CAD 3,850 (equivalent to LKR 793,100), to the college in early 2025. The donation was made in response to a request from the school administration, in anticipation of the college’s upcoming 150th anniversary celebrations. This contribution was made possible through the generosity of Mrs. Vijayadevy Kanagasabai, a former student of Victoria College, the first female President of JVC OSA Canada (2007– 2009), and one of the current Patrons of the association. The equipment was formally handed over on April 7, 2025, during a special ceremony coordinated by the Victoria College Old Students Association – Chulipuram. Representing the Canadian branch, JVC OSA Canada Patron and senior member Mr. V. Balachandran participated in the event, reaffirming the strong and ongoing relationship between alumni in Canada and their alma mater. This meaningful gesture — supporting the integration of digital learning tools — reflects the 2023–2025 committee’s continued dedication to strengthening international alumni collaboration and enhancing the academic resources available to students at J/Victoria College.

கோட்பாட்டின்படி கொடிய யுத்தத்தின் பின்னராக ஒரு சமுதாயத்தில் என்னென்ன தாக்கங்கள் நிகழும் என்றிருக்கின்றதோ அத்தனையும் அச்சுப்பிசகாமல் எமது சமுதாயத்தில் நிகழ்ந்தேறின. சரியான தலைமைத்துவமின்மை; உயிர்வாழ்ந்தால் போதும் என்கின்ற மனோநிலை; முற்றுமுழுதான சுயநலம்; சமுதாய அக்கறையின்மை; குறிப்பாக, சரியாக வழிநடத்தப்படாத இளைஞர்கள் மத்தியில் சமுதாயப்பிறழ்வு என அடுக்கிக்கொண்டே போகலாம்.
ஒருகாலத்திலே, பண்பாட்டிற்கும் கலாச்சாரத்திற்கும் கல்வியறிவிற்கும் உதாரணமாக விளங்கிய எமது சமுதாயத்தின் ஆன்மா உறங்கு நிலைக்குச் சென்றுவிட்டதோ என எண்ணத்தோன்றும் வகையிலே நிகழ்வுகள் நடந்தேறுகின்றன.
இங்கு ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக எல்லோர் மீதும் ஆதங்கப்படவில்லை. ஒரு சில நல்லவர்கள் உள்ளதாலேயே சமுதாயத்தின் இதயம் இன்னமும் துடித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. இப்பின்னணியிலேயே புலம்பெயர்ந்து வாழும் எமது உறவுகள் தாயகத்தைத் திரும்பிப்பார்க்கத் தொடங்கின.
தமது குடும்பத்தினருக்கும் உறவினர்களுக்கும் மட்டும் உதவிக்கொண்டிருந்தவர்கள், தமது பாடசாலையை, தமது கிராமத்தை, தமது இனத்தை என தமது அக்கறையின் வீச்சைப் பெருப்பித்துக்கொண்டுபோயினர்.

தனிப்பட்ட ரீதியிலும் குடும்பமாகவும் அறக்கட்டளைகளாகவும் பாடசாலை அல்லது பல்கலைக் கழக பழைய மாணவர் சங்கங்களாகவும் உதவ முன்வருகின்றனர். “வறுமை கல்விக்குத் தடையாக இருக்கக்கூடாது” எனும் பிரதான நோக்குடன் செயற்படும் பழைய மாணவர் சங்கங்கள் பாடசாலையின் இதர தேவைகளையும் நிறைவேற்ற முயல்கின்றன.
